Your First Projects

Getting started with leatherworking can be overwhelming, with so many options available. While a common first project is something like a belt or a wallet, you’re likely here because you’re looking for something more unique and exciting. That’s where we come in. We offer a range of beginner projects that are both affordable and easy to get started on. Even if you’re a complete novice, these projects will give you the opportunity to create something truly unique and interesting that you can be proud of.

Be aware that we offer bundles for most of our projects. If you’re planning to make a full suit of armor, a bundle can be a great way to save money in the long run. However, if you’re just getting started and want to try things out without investing too much upfront, our individual projects and patterns are a great way to dip your toes in the water.

About Kits

We offer numerous patterns and designs for all skill levels. And now, many of our designs are available as pre-cut kits. These kits make the process even easier by eliminating the need to figure out what leather to get and how much to buy, and by providing perfectly cut lines every time, and of course, the labor of having to cut it yourself.

Tools & Materials

Recommended Beginner Projects

Fantasy Bracers

My number one suggestion would be to start with bracers as they are very easy, don’t require a lot of materials, and are a great way to test out tooling and color schemes and experiment before committing to a full suit.

Fantasy Helmet

The Fantasy Helmet may seem intimidating with its multi-layered design, but it’s actually an easy project to build. It comes together straightforwardly, and you can be proud of your impressive results.

Warrior Helmet

The Warrior series is perfect for beginners, but it does require some wet-forming of the leather, which can be challenging. Our builds are designed to be approachable, while also pushing you to develop new skills and expand your horizons.

Try the free course available for the Fantasy Armor Bundle. You’ll have to purchase the patterns if you want to craft the project but the knowledge is free and presented up front so you know what you’re getting into from the start and can learn from it and decide if you are up for the challenge.
