This style fits neatly into a low-fantasy category; no barbs or spikes on this one. Take this base design and use our other tips, tricks, and tutorials from the Academy to decorate and augment the design to your preference.  For example, add knotwork-style tooling and an earthy color scheme for some Viking flair.

This series is about more than just the patterns and will come with a tutorial series that is an affordable introduction to armor crafting that can take you from beginner to intermediate and fits in just before the Fantasy Armor series, and will lay an important foundation for your armor crafting journey.

    I used only large rivets.

    I had been leather crafting for about a 6 months when I gave this pattern a shot. I did a few mods to match the armor style I was creating and the patterns really made that easy. I used the patterns for the pauldrons, the warskirt, and the breastplate, but didn't end up caring for the way the breast plate looked on me in foam so I modified it into one piece and just went with that. The videos clarified any questions I had. Sizing was simple, even for a woman who is Not a tiny woman. Armor came out looking great - definitely does not look cookie cutter and I can use variations of it as I continue to make other armor for myself and my husband.

    Awesome patterns to work with and videos to learn from. I've been working with leather for a few but never tried anything like armor before, what a hoot! Steep learning curve with hides costs as high as they are. Thought I'd bump it up a notch and use 12-14 oz rightttt! Wow, but it's working.

    I love the look of this pattern. It's a beginner level for the base pattern, so very easy to work with, but has plenty of opportunity to personalize if you want. I opted to add a little laser engraving to give it a little arcane mysticism. Did this piece first because it really called to me. Now working on some of the other parts to go with. Thank you for doing all the hard work making these beautiful patterns!

    I made this helmet for my brother, who wanted a helmet that matched the breastplate I made him from the Fantasy armor series. He wanted some Sauron/overlord vibes, so I added the crown piece to the pattern. I'm going to make a separate piece that can be snapped on the front of the helmet (that can be taken off as well for hot days) with the mouth piece that resembles the Sauron helmet as well.
    I love this pattern and how basic it is, so I can easily add some other details myself. Can't wait for the rest of the patterns!
